Music: YG – “The Uptown Portmore Mixtape” (@West_YG, @VeeYG)

Once I heard the intro of ‘The Uptown Portmore Mixtape’ done by Zj Sparks, my interest was suddenly piqued to hear what the DJs of Yung Gunnerz a.k.a YG had in store for us. I love the skits and the Dancehall/Hip- Hop Remixes of some of the top songs from both genres. This isn’t one of those monotonous mixtapes, trust me! You’re going to want to listen from start to finish and possibly have it on repeat.

Music: Reggae Meets EDM – Trevor Simpson ft. @Keznamdi – ‘ Watching You’

Reggae artiste Keznamdi has made his entry into the EDM market with his latest single ‘Watching You’. The dance track is produced by international DJ/ electronic artist Trevor Simpson and  becomes available today via major EDM retailer beatport.com ; it will be available on all other digital outlets on July 1. The song is being marketed and distributed by independent dance music powerhouse label, Carillo Music.

Over the past 24 months, the EDM landscape has brought about a cross pollination of genres, flavors and ethnicities resulting in this genre now taking over music charts and festivals globally. Keznamdi believes this will increase his marketability, “EDM is a big thing worldwide trust me, I’ve seen it for myself when I travel, so when my management got the call from the producers, we went in studio right away. My aim is to bridge all life’s’ gaps through music and I think this track will further help my message and culture to transcend borders”- Keznamdi.

‘Watching You’ is an adaptation of Keznamdi’s radio hit ‘Darkness’ which was featured on his Bridging the Gap EP, release last year. The single is currently being serviced to the EDM DJ community and has already been remixed several times which is a good sign from industry insiders according to Rod Carillo, famed dance and Latin music producer and label president at Carillo Music;  “Our team has garnished some great industry reactions so far, industry watchers have been following DJ Trevor Simpson’s career and by adding Keznamdi’s profile to this collaboration, the insiders and people
on a whole are buzzing about it for sure.”

While this is his first EDM single, the 22 year old Rastafarian singer does not intend for this to be his last, “We watching this single to see how well it does and who knows, if it does as well as we expect, we may just do an album for that market; as I always say I’m a limitless being, spreading positivity through music by any means necessary”.

Keznamdi recently released the music video for his latest single ‘I Don’t Wanna’ taken from his Bridging the Gap EP released last April which peaked at number four on the iTunes reggae charts and number ten on the Billboard Reggae Album Charts.

Music: Zagga (@ZaggaMusic) – ‘I Wish’

Zagga’s latest single entitled ‘I Wish’ is produced by up and coming producer Anthony Thomas of ‘Anthony Records’ and was premiered in several countries including Jamaica, St. Lucia, Cayman Islands and Africa. This catchy single by the Chimney Records recording artiste is an appreciable follow up to his recent hit song ‘My Destination’ which was released by his home label in October 2013.

‘I Wish’ comes as a refreshing change to Zagga’s usual ‘conscious’ lyrics and delivery as he laments about his desire to capture the heart of a female who caught his eye. “I enjoyed this project” Zagga commented, “and people can expect more songs like this from me because it’s all about the mood and I’m sure I won’t be in this mood just once”.

Anthony says he sees that the song has great potential and he hopes to make a stamp with this new single and show that good music still exists.

Zagga also intends to shoot a video to accompany this single and hopes he will be able to do so in time for summer.

His next project will be an EP which is being produced by his management and production team Chimney Records.

Music: Marcy Chin (@marcychinadoll) – “When Again”

Marcy Chin Rips Up The Airwaves With “When Again”

When again? Right now! The sultry sing-jay Marcy Chin has released yet another sizzling single to entice the ears of die hard Dancehall fans. The newest release is a cover of veteran Dancehall artiste Tiger’s 90s hit “When” with a fresh twist from Chin. The song, which was produced by Ward 21’s Kunley McCarthy possesses the raw and edgy Dancehall beat that Jamaicans know and love under the distinctive and fluid vocals of Chin. “When Again” was released on April 5, 2014 under the Wiletunes Label and is currently available on iTunes.

Marcy Chin is living proof that Dancehall is not dead. With her raw passion and undeniable talent, she is a force to be reckoned with. “Dancehall needs a facelift and I’m going to start by resurrecting the better part of the nineties”, stated Chin on why she decided to do the cover. “I’m very inspired by the core days of Dancehall and my style is deeply rooted in the eighties and nineties so I felt it was only right I paid tribute to that era with a song as simple, warm and as fun as Tiger’s.”

Other singles from the Badabadagang member include “Body Able”, “The Bounce” and “No Time For Games” on the infamous Dutty Fowl Riddim. Her current mixtape “Sex, Gunz and Smoke” can be heard and downloaded from SoundCloud or YouTube.
